The "Magic button" of faith

 

오늘의 묵상 (눅17:5~19)

 

 

5. 사도들이 주님께 말했습니다. "우리의 믿음을 더하여 주십시오."

 

6. 주님께서 말씀하셨습니다. "만일 너희에게 겨자씨만한 믿음이 있으면, 이 뽕나무더러 '뿌리째 뽑혀 바다에 심겨라'해도 그것이 네 말에 순종 할 것이다. ."

 

7. "너희 가운데 밭을 갈거나 양을 치는 일을 맡은 종이 있는데, 그가 밭에서 돌아오면 '어서 이리와서 앉아 먹어라'하고 말할 사람이 누가 있겠느냐?

 

8. 오히려 종에게 '너는 내가 먹을 것을 준비하고 내가 먹고 마시는 동안, 허리를 동이고 시중들다가 그후에 먹고 마시라'하지 않겠느냐?

 

9. 시키는 대로 했다고 해서 주인이 종에게 고맙다고 하겠느냐?

 

10. 이와 같이 너희도 명령받은 것을 다 행하고 나서 '우리는 가치 없는 종입니다. 우리는 그저 해야 할 일을 했을 뿐입니다'라고 말해야 할 것이다."

 

11. 예수님께서 예루살렘으로 가시는 길에 사마리아와 갈릴리 사이를 지나시게 되었습니다.

 

12. 예수님께서 어떤 마을에 들어가시다가 열 사람의 문둥병 환자를 만났습니다. 그들은 멀리 서서

 

13. 목소리를 높였습니다. "예수 선생님! 우리에게 자비를 베풀어 주십시오."

 

14. 예수님께서 그들을 보시고 "제사장에게 가서 너희 몸을 보여라"하고 말씀하셨습니다. 그들은 가는 도중에 몸이 깨끗하게 되었습니다.

 

15. 그들 가운데 하나가 자기가 나은 것을 보고 돌아와서 큰 소리로 하나님께 영광을 돌렸습니다.

 

16. 그리고 예수님의 발 앞에 엎드려 감사를 드렸습니다. 그는 사마리아 사람이었습니다.

 

17. 예수님께서 말씀하셨습니다. "열 사람이 다 깨끗하게 되지 않았느냐? 그런데 아홉은 어디 있느냐?

 

18. 이 이방인 외에는 하나님께 영광을 돌리러 돌아온 사람이 없단 말이냐?"

 

19. 그리고 그에게 말씀하셨습니다. "일어나 가거라. 네 믿음이 너를 낫게 하였다."

 

 

 

 

 

 

THE “MAGIC BUTTON” OF FAITH

 

 

Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? (Luke 17:9)

 

    

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD IT? “You gotta have faith!” or, “Oh, ye of little faith!” I'm sure that most of us have even said these phrases to family members or friends who are going through a rough time. But how does one go about getting more faith? Is there a button inside us that God pushes to increase our faith?

    

It's amazing to us that these disciples, who walked with Jesus and witnessed His miracles on a daily basis, would have a problem with faith. If seeing Jesus raise a widow's son from the dead (Luke 7) didn't increase their faith, what would? Yet, here they are, asking Jesus for more faith.

     

How did Jesus respond? He told them a parable about a servant who does what he's told. Jesus' answer to them was, if you want faith, be faithful. As we serve God, we learn to know Him and to trust His movement in our lives. God's focus becomes our focus, our hearts tune to His heart. We find ourselves trusting that God knows what He's doing—we're just His faithful servants, content to let Him be the Master in our lives. We stop looking for that “magic” button and start building our trust in Him through obedience to His Word.
