Seeking and finding

 

오늘의 묵상 (렘29:1~9)

 

 

1. 예언자 예레미야가 느부갓네살이 바빌론으로 잡아간 장로들과 제사장들, 그리고 예언자들과 모든 백성들에게 예루살렘에서 편지를 보냈습니다.

 

2. 그 때는 여호야긴 왕과 그의 어머니, 내시들, 유다와 예루살렘의 신하들, 그리고 기술자들과 대장장이들이 예루살렘에서 포로로 끌려간 후였습니다.

 

3. 유다 왕 시드기야가 사반의 아들 엘라사와 힐기야의 아들 그마랴를 바빌로니아 왕 느부갓네살에게 보냈습니다. 그래서 예레미야는 그 편지를 그들에게 주어 바빌론으로 보냈습니다. 편지의 내용은 이러합니다.

 

4. 만군의 여호와, 이스라엘의 하나님께서 예루살렘에서 바빌론으로 쫓아 버린 모든 백성에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다.

 

5. "너희는 집도 짓고 그 땅에 머물러 살아라. 과수원도 짓고 거기에서 자라는 열매를 먹어라.

 

6. 결혼하여 아들딸을 낳고 너희 아들들도 장가가게 하고 너희 딸들도 시집가게 해서 그 곳에서 아들딸을 낳게 하여라. 너희는 그 곳에서 자녀를 많이 낳아 너희 수가 줄어들지 않게 하여라.

 

7. 그리고 내가 너희를 쫓아 보낸 그 성에 평안이 임하도록 기도하고 너희가 살고 있는 성을 위해 여호와께 기도하여라. 그 성이 평안해야 너희도 평안할 것이다."

 

8. 만군의 여호와, 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희 가운데 있는 예언자들과 점쟁이들에게 속지 마라. 그들의 꿈 이야기에도 귀 기울이지 마라.

 

9. 나는 그들을 보내지 않았는데 그들은 내 이름으로 너희에게 거짓 예언을 하고 있다. 나 여호와의 말이다."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SEEKING AND FINDING

 

 

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you. (Jer. 29:7)

 

    

This passage brings to mind the old adage “bloom where you're planted.” We sometimes grumble at the places we find ourselves. Our energy is spent crying out to God, asking Him where He is and how we got to this place. The problem is usually that we are not where He wants us to be. Sometimes we listen to other people and allow their dreams to become ours. It is difficult to be content when we constantly compare our situation to others, using an earthly measuring scale.

    

We need to be seeking God and His plan for our lives. The Bible instructs us to “earnestly seek him,” and to “seek him while he may be found.” If our focus is on God and what he desires, and not on what we want, it is much easier to find the path He has laid out. It isn't always easy to know God's will. Satan will try to confuse us, and friends may try to influence us with their opinions.

    

When we earnestly seek the peace and spiritual prosperity God has prepared for us, we will come to understand His purpose. He has placed us in “cities,” whether physical or spiritual, and we have to learn to live in the cities where we're placed.
