GOD KEEPS HIS
PROMISES
"If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and
just to forgive us our sins . . ." (1 John 1:9
KJV).
Dinny Malone was an old,
retired sea captain with a reputation for integrity. He told his minister that
he had been trying for six years to get God to forgive him and He
wouldn't.
"Have you repented and
trusted God?" the minister asked.
"Yes," replied Dinny. "But
I never feel in my heart that He has forgiven me."
The minister read 1 John
1:9 to the old man and then asked, "Dinny, when you give your word, don't you
keep it?"
"I sure do!" he thundered.
"I'm a gentleman, and I have never gone back on my word."
The minister looked
straight at Dinny. "Don't you consider God to be as trustworthy as you? Don't
you think He will keep His word?"
Suddenly the light broke
through. "Why, of course!" Dinny shouted. "God would not lie. He has said He
would forgive me, so He must forgive me. Now I know I'm
forgiven!"
Many people struggle to
know they are saved. To question that God has saved you after you have met His
conditions and done what the Word tells you to do, is to deny that God is
eternal truth and cannot lie. "In hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot
lie, promised before time began" (Titus 1:2 NKJV).
Life response: I will trust God for a glorious future because He always keeps His word.
