SOW THE RIGHT SEED!
Do not be deceived: God cannot be
mocked. A man reaps what he sows
(Gal. 6:7 NIV).
While still in junior high
school, another trumpet player and I were good enough to play in the high school
band. I felt at the time that I was the better player of the two. But when we
entered high school the following year, the other boy was moved to a higher
chair. Disappointed, I began to feel sorry for myself. I thought surely the band
director liked him better than he liked me. But then I heard the other boy play,
and had to admit that he was now the better player. During the summer months he
had practiced trumpet while I played baseball. His promotion was not because the
director liked him better, but because he had worked hard and was now reaping
the benefits.
Seed determines the
harvest. You can't change the harvest after the seed is in the ground. Vice and
virtue are their own paymasters.
"For the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life" (Rom. 6:23). Too many people live as
servants of sin and then expect to collect a saint's reward.
If you want to reap the
benefits of righteousness and holiness, you must sow seeds of righteousness and
holiness in your life. That is a simple but profound law of
God.
Life response: I will consider the harvest as I sow the seeds of this life.
