JESUS: CHART AND RUDDER
As ye have therefore received Christ
Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him
(Col. 2:6 KJV).
One of man's first
successes in flying was by hot air balloon. It has never become a popular means
of transportation, however, because it has no rudder, no means of guidance. The
least maneuverable of all aircraft, it flies only where the wind may blow it.
Although hot air balloonists have accomplished some remarkable feats, they can
never be sure where or when they will arrive.
In order to achieve success
in life, we must have both an external guidance system and some internal method
of control. Every man is dependent upon a course, a chart or an indication of
the way he should go. And he must have some means by which he can choose the
direction of his life in order to follow that course.
According to Paul's words
to the Colossians, Jesus is both the chart and the rudder. He is the external
guide and is the internal power that enables us to follow His direction. When we
start our walk with the Lord, we cannot see the end from the beginning. But we
continue our walk the same way we began it — by faith. We do not need to see the
end of the road. Our job is to trust and obey. We cannot go astray as long as we
stay close to our Guide.
Life response: I will allow Jesus Christ to be my "chart" and "rudder."
