GOD HAS NO
GRANDCHILDREN
How great is the love the Father has
lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1
NIV).
There is no place in the
New Testament that speaks of second-generation Christians, God's grandchildren.
one lady boasted that her grandchildren were the sixth generation of the family
to be members of their 275-year-old church. Their great-great-grandfather was
one of the founders and their father had been on the consistory for forty-six
consecutive years.
I hope she knows her
grandchildren are not God's. Their long family record of faithfulness to that
church is admirable, but does not give those children a favored status with God.
Our relationship with God is purely a personal matter.
I have always appreciated
the benefits of a Christian home, perhaps not as much when I was younger as I do
now. I was taken to church when only a few weeks old. I don't remember anything
other than going to Sunday school and church on Sunday. For years, my father was
the volunteer church custodian. We were the first family to arrive
so he could open the church and the last to leave after he closed up. During
that faithful attendance, I learned many things. But one day as a teenage boy, I
repented of my sins, received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and became a
child of God.
Becoming a Christian is a
personal matter.
