God reveals his will

GOD REVEALS HIS WILL

 

I delight to do thy will, O my God
(Ps. 40:8 KJV).

 

God reveals His will in several ways. He may call you by His Spirit. For example, I can take you to the very place where I was sitting when the Spirit of God called me to preach.

God also calls through spiritual counselors — godly, experienced people with discernment.

 

He sometimes calls through providence, through open or closed doors. A friend of mine once ran for the United States Congress. He is a fine Christian attorney and I felt he would make an outstanding legislator. I was disappointed when he lost the election. From a human standpoint it seemed that it should have been God's will for him to win. But my friend has had great opportunities for ministry since losing the election — opportunities he might never have known if he had won.

 

God also leads through His Word. The Spirit of God will never lead you contrary to His Word. Check every prompting, leading, voice, or direction from the Spirit or from your spiritual counselors, even when doors of opportunity seem to appear. If it contradicts the Word, you know it is not from the Lord.

 

If we delight to do God's will, like the psalmist did, we can be sure He will let us know His will.
