Under Attack

시편 35:1 (쉬운성경, NASB)

 

1. 여호와여, 나와 다투는 자와 다투어 주시고, 나와 싸우는 자와 싸워 주서.

Cotend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me.

 

 

 WHEN THE EVACUATION order was lifted, the all-clear signal was given for us to return homethe wildfire was under control. As my husband and I walked up the dirt driveway to our house, a lone firefighter stood in the darkness leaning against a post. When asked if he was waiting for someone, he replied, "No, I am posted here for the next four hours to watch your hillside while the others sleep. We've been fighting fires for thirty-six hours straight and will stay here in four-hour shifts to be sure the fire does not threaten you or your property." At perfect peace with the situation, I tucked myself into bed and thought, "Isn't that just like our awesome God, giving me a tangible example of His constant presence?" David most likely wrote this lament in the heat of the battle. The prayer is a cry for help and also for vindication and poetic justice. Using not only the language of war but also that of hunting, David pleads His case before the Lord. He even calls for an angel from God's army to swiftly defeat his enemies. Are you under attack? Does it feel as though the enemy might overtake you at any moment? Rest assured mighty warrior, you are not alone in your fight. God is at His post. He is your defender and shield.

* vindication[vìndəkéiʃən] : 1. 옹호, 변호, 입증, 2. 변명, 해명, 정당성,  to prove that sth is true or that you were right to do sth, especially when other people had a different opinion
